IIRC, if you had version 2.00.07 you cannot change the P25 settings. They show up on the LCD but you cannot change them.

I have version 2.01.01, which works considerably better and does allow you to change the decode settings. I got that version from UPman. The decode rates are pretty good and the motorboating does not happen as often. It does do a good job on the MECA P25 system.

What you are talking about is the decode rate. (setting)
What we are talking about is the AGC, automatic gain control, you change how fast it decodes or doesn't, plus you can adjust the sound quality, sort of like a mini bass-treble control. You can do both digital or analog or just one. This is the hidden menu accessed by holding the hold button and powering up. It is unsupported by Uniden though.

I've been tweaking my 796D this morning.
I found that my main problem was a weak signal. I moved my outside directional antenna a few degrees and now have full bar strength most of the time from Smith Valley Rd and US 31.
Speedway sounds great. Beech Grove gets a little garble from time to time.

This is probably a dumb question, but why does my signal strength drop a bar occaisionally while scanning? Reflection off of trees? Distance? I'm pointed towards the airport.

Unlike before, at least I can listen to Meca 1 now.

Signal bars, part of scanner mystery black holes.
I don't know, but it does it on mine even with a strong signal. And Todd's online scanner does the same thing.

But you are right, moving the scanner/antenna often does wonders for the reception.

Thanks for the info NEWSALAN.

I'll leave well enough alone at this time.

I will say that a 2 degree change eaither way from the best spot made a big difference, just like you said.

My wife was real happy to be my signal strength meter yelling instructions to me while I was on the roof.

She says people are sleeping at 7:20 am on Sunday mornings.

God, I lover her...

You can change the P25 setting on the 396T after the 2.00.07 Update
Press and hold the Function botton"F" and then turn the volume to change the P25 threshhold setting default is 8 if you do not hold the F key it will only beep and not change.

I thought that was just a "placeholder." But then again they didn't really define what they meant by placeholder.

Can you adjust the ACG settings with 2.00.07? I never tried that when I had it loaded. I went right to the newer firmware when it was available.

yes I have found that the 07 does the same stuff with the 07 for some settings you have to hold the hold botton then turn on the scanner to unlock the Unofficial updates use at your own risk stuff but for the P25 you just turn the scanner on like you did before then hold the f key then push the volume botton 2 times then if you turn it it will not work but if you hold the f key and turn the volume it works I know if I take that 8 to 17 I no longer hear the TG so it does work why they say it is just a place hold i dont know.
These all work in the 07
AGC
P25threshold
Digital end Code
P 25 gain
P25 res
p 25 wait time

Hope that helps but one thing is for sure with MECA DIGITAL if you dont have a good signal and hold a CC it will never work no matter what settings you use.

LOL, what amazes me is that at Smith Valley Rd & 31 I recieve Hamilton Co EDACS better than I do at home 30 miles closer to the system! But then again location and elevation can mean a lot in reception

Just an FYI, MECA has canceled their July board meeting, just like they did for June, no reason given.

My error rates jump from 30 to 60, does this sound normal?
I just changed my decode setting to 4 from 8 to see if that helps.

yup..three alarm fire in Speedway...support staff sounds okay outside..guys inside the fire structure don't sound too good...it must be easy to key your radio inside...I've heard radios keyed up and several f bombs over the air.

Here is a good one LFD gets a run and the CAD computer sends them to OPS 1 and OPS 1 is in use with the fire so the the fist engin says dispatch we need another ops that ops one is in use
Some great new system.

Here is the BEST ONE YET WISH 8 runs a story on MECA just now IMPD does not want to switch NEW ISSUE the audio from the radios come from a small speaker in the console and the phone part of the 911 through the head set and the old system fed that audio both of them through the head set so the dispatcher could hear good audio. There is a fix but would cost 300,000 IMPD says this puts them at risk that the dispatcher may not hear the audio from that small speaker during an emergncy if on a 911 call. MECA would NOT return WISH 8 calls and canceld the July Board meeting witch we new about the board cancle. I feel sorry for the PD and FD in the middle of this.

I'm on the far west side of Plainfield, and I'm receiving the new MECA digital system loud and clear with no breakups on my PRO-96 handheld with the original antenna.

The SAFE-T system for this area (Hendricks County -- I assume it's coming from the Plainfield site which is on top of the water tower near Marsh, rather than the Danville site) comes in so strong that it almost overloads the scanner, and I can receive that system perfectly even with the antenna removed.
