A friend asked me about taking her test online and she had a question I did not know the answer or where to send her to find it. But can you take the test with just the camera that is built into the laptop? Thinking about it she figured they would want to see you taking the test so they could see you not using any other papers or what ever and a built in camera is not very wide angled. I had talked to a local ham a long time back and he said all you needed was a computer with a camera and I never thought about a laptop with a built in camera, just figured then with a normal camera you could move it around how every they wanted to see you. Thanks for any help guys

I just had never done it or even thought about her question. Was not sure how they would make sure you were not cheating if they could not see you if looked away. I'm sure with hundreds of possable questions I'm not sure how you could cheat very easy any way. Use to with CAP and and some online testing we had we used a program that locked you screen to that page so you could not say switch to another page but you could use another computer side by side

Some are more stringent than others, but for the main camera, a built in webcam is just fine. As an example, PARC does online exams and requires you to have a webcam and a second camera like your cell phone both online during the exam. Home

Typically each VE team will have detailed instructions on their particular website or registration page. That said, the instructions for the one I went through when I upgraded to General were much more detailed than what the team actually did. The instructions said I could use the camera built in to the laptop but that they would also need a second camera to watch me from the side. I had this setup and ready to go and was immediately asked why there were two cameras for me. I explained I was following the instructions on the registration email and the lead VE said "turn off the second one, we don't need that". One of the other VEs also on for monitoring the session spoke up and said it does say that in the instructions to which the lead guy said "well we'll discuss that at the next meeting; that's nonsense". So, it may not be as serious/ominous as the instructions can make it feel going in.

Best for her to reach out to the particular group she plans to use and just ask ahead of time. They're mostly concerned about being sure others aren't in the room, there aren't other screens around, etc. At least that was my experience.
