From what I can find to read, the Pro-96 and it's base style brother are the ONLY RS scanners that can do APCO-25 digital?

The Pro-95,Pro-97 and 2055 are better for aircarft, but won't do squat with APCO-25.

Do I have this right?

Perhaps I have all the aircraft coverage I need with a Pto-91??

thanks, in advance, and 73's,
Jon

It's a darn good digital scanner and will do Mil/Air if unlocked (I don't monitor the Mil/Air frequencies myself, but I hear it does a pretty good job of it).

What specifically are you interested in monitoring?

maddogdecker- THANKS!

Mark- true they do and that was the "base" version I refererred to. The Pro-96 is EXCELLENT for APCO-25 here and is chattering-away as I type this.

InlandAZ- Mil/Air and aircraft seem a bit "dodgey" here. I get jack-squat Mil/Air, and dodgey Aircraft with Stock/800Mhz,3/4 wave 866MHz/1/4 wave 866MHz antennas. NO surprise with antenna selection. Do have enerything programmed with Win96 and download from the great-and-kind RR Database.
Are you referring to Pro-96 /2096 or Pro-95/2055??

I agree that the GRE scanners for Radio Shack are a wonderful thing, though you do have to get the right one for the job. Me I'm a Scanner Nut so I need to cover EVERYTHING so multiple scanners are probably in order here.

Are you in Oz?(For some reason I read yer post as from Down-Under...)

73's all ya'll,
Jon

Hi Jon - yeah, the 96 (and the 2096, too, I would think...) is indeed a bit 'dodgey' on milair. The fact is that the radio was never intended to work on the UHF milair band (it should work just fine in the VHF 138-144 mhz range, tho) - so when you open it up with Win96, it's not a sure bet it's going to work OK. Many have found that it did, but there's been more than a few that found it was dead as a stone on that band (Larry Van Horn's MT review, for example).
That's not an indication of something being wrong with the radio; it was never designed to cover it in the first place.
By the way, the PRO-95 is in the same boat - never designed for it, probably won't work all that well, at least from the specs on the Starrsoft site.
Bottom line - if you want APCO-25 and milair - get a Uniden. 73s Mike

Like I said, I don't personally monitor the Mil/Air frequencies - but, I'm surprised... several here have boasted about its performance when unlocked. And yes, I'm referring to the Pro 96/2096...

I have a Pro96 and a 2096 both sitting here on my desk right now monitoring milair from Randolph Air Force Base. I am far enough from the base that I must use an exterior antenna to pick up the tower, but both are picking up aircraft with no problem.
