Onondaga County... Which radio should I get?

I plan on getting the new Pro-107. I know it works because I tested one in the store.


However, will it be a good investment? Is Onondaga county going digital anytime soon? I don't have/want to spend the money for a digital scanner at this time. Maybe a in a few years I'll invest in a digital handheld scanner, but not anytime soon.

Onondaga will go digital any month now, they are waiting on a Canadian approval. All of the infrastructure is installed.

I know for a fact that portable testing has already been underway for a few weeks now. From what I understand, testing is going well. Syracuse FD did testing at their training facility Tuesday morning while operating handlines and saws. My understanding is that it went pretty well. I guess there were some issues with noise cacellation in the digital radios, but nothing too bad.

The plan from what I hear is to have Syracuse PD cut over by 2/1/2010 and the rest of the county by April 2010. I believe the plan is to cut over using portables only for fire and ems at first and then install mobiles since portable coverage seems to be good. I believe mobiles will be installed after the cutover date. Also, a few months later, crossbanding will be discontinued.

I have not been monitering so I'm not 100% sure on these.
