Hi all....here's a "rave"....(as opposed to a "rant")
I just got hold of an Icom OPC-478(U) - the USB - TTL Programmer for most newer Icom Hand-helds.
Anyway, so far it has worked GREAT on the following radios:
IC-T90A
IC-F3G
IC-F43G
Alinco DJ-X3
I've had far better results with it than I have with the rs-232 cable (though I don't have a "real" ICOM OPC-478 serial programmer...that may be the problem.)
The USB programmer has worked 100% and is much faster than the serial programmer.
The catch....most Icom cloning software only supports COM 1-4. When you install the 478(U) you'll probably have to reassign it's com port so it's in that range. If you have a laptop with built-in MODEM and IR port, etc...COM 1-4 may already be in use....this is a bit tricky if you're not aware. Not a big deal with WinXP though.
