Evening all,
I was traveling through Opelika last night and had my scanner locked on the Opelika PD frequency just to listen in on them. I heard one mobile unit tell another one to go to a Tac 2 frequency. It was dark and raining hard so I didn't try and mess with the scanner while driving to see if I had a Tac 2 freq in it. After a minute or two I heard the same officer instruct the other unit to come back to Tac 1. Does anyone know if a Tac 2 freq is in the clear or could OPD be using some encryption? I've only heard them transmit on 2 freqs. but have only been able to listen to them for a couple of weeks now having just aquired this scanner. I'm still trying to get a handle on what are the most used frequencies in the Opelika system. I do notice that OPD is relatively quiet compared to the Auburn PD right next door. APD is almost constantly talking while OPD often goes several minutes without transmitting.
