Open bands

For two nights open bands open up I didnt hear much it's all red where I'm at in NW of Fl. You think with red you'll hear a lot of traffic.

As you are looking at APRS data I assume it is a two meter opening. Most 'DXing' on two meters is single side band in the neighborhood of 144.2 MHz -but few scanners have SSB capabilities. They also use horizontal rather than vertical antennas which also makes it harder to pick up-cross polarization loss at 144 is over 20db. If you just monitor 144.39 you would hear a increase in the number of data bursts -but unless you have some software to decode the bursts (it just packet) it will get boring real quick.

I noticed I was getting reception of a 222 MHz Amateur repeater yesterday morning that I normally don't hear, and when I checked the website I saw that big red area over Florida.

2m was also enhanced and I heard repeaters that I usually don't hear too.
