How much impact can computers have on scanners? Let me describe a condition which I suspect may be caused by computers for which perhaps someone can shed some light and a possible solution on.

I use a Pro 2045 with a discriminator tap. When this receiver is in the same room with the computer (used for decoding software with the receiver), unless their is an audio transmission on that channel, it will always have an open squelch. Every channel is filled with static, unless their is an aubible carrier on it. Adjusting the squelch does not do anything generally. It does not appear to change when a portable antenna (telescopic) is switched with an external (outside) antenna.

Move the receiver to another room, it appears the problem disappears. The receiver scans through all 200 channels flawlessly stopping only on carriers. No open squelch.

I have 4 other radios, an none exhibit this same characteristic.

What are you other radios, the 2045 is a great radio but older radio. not even sure it is triple conversion, still might be the older double conversion. it is a good chance the computer is affecting it. Try a different power transformer in the same room or try some rf chokes on the coax and power cord...

I have ran PR02045's for years. I have never had such a problem with RFI and the PRO2045. Seems you have a noisy device in the room, possibly emitting RF near or on one of the IF's in the radio.
