OpenCPN AIS and Google Earth Plugin

I have OPENCPN freeware and AISmon setup and Downloaded the Google Earth plugin and it does not work with Opencpn software anymore I think. Is there a way to get the plugin to work ??.

Also is there a better freeware program to use then OPENCPN out there.
