Does OpenRailwayMap have a way to see what railroad is on which tracks? I see the subdivision, but no railroad name.

As far as I know, there is not a way to do it directly in ORM. But if you go to the same location in open street map and then under the "Map Layers" panel, select "Map Data". Click on the track and then you will be able to see all of the tags associated with the rail line.

Another option for the USA is to look at the Bureau of Transportation Statistics map for their data.

Would there be a way to download this onto a Garmin GPS?

Googled.

...I know people have put OSM data on Garmins...
I have added some OSM maps to a few of my Garmin GPS navigators.

As much as I have been pretty brand loyal to Garmin for years, they have been slow to update their maps. To OSM and Waze's credit, they are much quicker at updating things. If the data is in .IMG format, I can download it and move it to the micro SD card on my Garmins.

Anybody had any luck downloading maps from ORM in vector format? OpenStreetMap allows it.

Yes. I've done it on two older Garmins that didn't have lifetime map updates. It works fine.

Its been a while, so I don't remember all the steps. But what I remember I had to download the map files, copy them to the SD card used by my Garmin GPS and then go into the GPS' settings and select that map to use.
