How does OpenSky work?

Does it have repeater input frequencies?

Like is it possible to only scan the input frequencies?

I understand it is pretty much impossible to decode OpenSky conversations, but can an input frequency be used to tell whether or not an OpenSky user is near you?

Yes, but you would only hear a series of rapid noise bursts when a user radio was transmitting. I haven't been close to one so I don't know what they sound like or if they would open the squelch on a scanner or other FM receiver.
