I'm looking to upgrade receivers from the Whistler TRX-1 to either the SDS-100 or the DV10. If I opted for the DV10 I would probably look to get a Unication G5 or dedicated 800mhz radio for trunked monitoring and use the DV10 for conventional reception. My concern is that reviews were not favorable for the early release but I am seeing that a new 2023 version has come out. Anyone with experience on the new version have opinions on my use case and whether the radio would be worth purchasing. I'm primarily looking for reception performance and the ability to monitor multiple protocols. Thanks in advance!

I own a DV-10.

There are serious issues with this radio.

Its P25 decoding is awful, I mean bad, sounds like Daleks talking. There's also no talk group ID identification.
The IC-R30 P25 decoding knocks the DV-10's out the ballpark and provides talk group IDs.
The IC-R30's sensitivity is superior.

DMR decoding is fine, but again no talk group ID and no way to program slot#.

There's issues with the squelch. Set it to just closed and scanning and the squelch will open (with a clicking sound) when no signal is present and activate the display light which runs down the battery. Increasing the squelch will stop this but now weak signals will not open the squelch.

Battery life is also lousy.

There are other issues which I described here in another thread.

Buyer beware...

Thanks for the information. Do you have the older generation or the newer one? If the older one, do you know if any of those issues have been resolved?

My unit is about a year old.

I believe there's a recent firmware update, so the firmware running on my unit is the previous release.

I don't detect any frequency drift issues on my DV-10 though that's just my impression from playing around with it, don't have any fancy test equipment.

The recording feature is also very primitive, just a timestamp, no other information, frequency, mode etc. The audio of the recordings is also poor and my unit makes a clicking sound when the record feature is activated.

The radio also makes a variety of noises when buttons are pushed.

There's also no dual receive, or GPS.

My impression is that this radio was rush released when it was halfway through development.

Some of those issues may have been fixed in the recent firmware release.

However, buyer beware...

Ok, I will probably lean towards another option then. Thank you.
