Hi all

Wife wants me to remove my project inverted v from the side of the house.

“looks ghastly” apparently. .......

So anyone have any input on this antenna:
SIGMA EUROCOM SE-HF-X80 VERTICAL RADIAL FREE ANTENNA 80 TO 6 METRES 7426799303833 | eBay

Looks like it does have a few positive reviews

Going to be using it with my
MFJ-945E and my IC756, using RG213 and it will be approximately 30' off the ground.
I am in Canada and as a minimum would like to communicate with continental USA on all HF + 6, and as far as possible from there onward.

Thank you and regards

I'm always suspicious of "radial free" non-resonant vertical antennas. The antenna may "work", but it will be very inefficient.

I like to explain wavelength to those that find antennas annoying or homely. I take it you have already tried to involve her in the hobby?
You could even show her the actual text in the description that says 400 PEP max AND you need to use a tuner anyway making it more inefficient.
Perhaps you could still win and keep what you have.....good luck!!

That particular antenna is along the same lines as the Comet CHA-250B. Its a dummy load on a stick. It will make contacts and they work a little better on the mid higher bands like 17 and 20m but on 40m and below good luck on anyone hearing you and on 10m a base loaded roof mount mobile antenna will work better.

(1) That antenna will probably work about as well as a 20 foot piece of wire.

(2) Stop the "wife gets to decide what antennas I can have" business ASAP or just give up the idea of a decent amateur station at your place. The 2 concepts are not usually compatible.

Lolol

Thank you all for your input. Really appreciate it.

This finally might be my chance and get my dream multi band vertical MFJ AV680.

According to the wife that antenna is only 100$ (from what I have told her apparently)

Then just put up an AV-18HT Hy-Tower, that should cost about $150 (from what you have told her).

If you go with a vertical, get one that you can install radials with. Plenty of those to choose from. Have fun and keep the wife happy.
