Don't forget the Search option is your friend. Comms with the OPP helicopter and airplane have been brought up many many times in the past months.

One of the two Eurocopters, C-FOPP is in Eastern Ontario today, helping search for two missing children in the Alexandria area. See "OPP, military search for 2 missing boys in eastern Ont" at http://www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/story/2008/09/16/ot-leger-080916.html.

According to MTrunker32 which I have on Zone 2 Site 2 (CRNWAL) they are using 2TAC04 (9424) with SIM-11 (148.765 MHz.) patched into it. No fancy tactical callsigns today, C-FOPP is identifying itself simply as "Helecopter" and their main contribution seems to be their FLIR.

One odd thing; the audio through Fleetnet seems delayed about 1/2 second from SIM-11, making it difficult to follow and compare the two. My way around this was to tune SIM-11 on my Icom IC-PCR2500 and route the audio through its USB interface to the PC speakers, rather than use the receiver's internal speaker. The latency of this audio path added enough delay that the two signals were more or less in sync.

I imagine they are also on Zone 2, Site 34 Vankleek Hill (VANKLK) but the (discriminator tapped) PRO-2006 I use to monitor the control channel and the PRO-2096 I use for the P-25 voice channels are just using their whip antennas inside the house, so I can only receive my local Site 2 on them.

I'm also monitoring the local Unicom frequency, 122.775 MHz. (Cornwall Regional Airport in Summerstown) but there's no sign of them there. I have no idea who they are talking to on the aeronautical band but they have to be there somewhere.

Hope this helps with another piece of the puzzle regarding OPP helicoptor ops.

Its drug time

OPP have been searching cornfields down here in Lambton hunting for weed, on the same freqs.

FLIR is used to see the infared signature that marijuana gives off

I could be mistaken here, I'm not @ home to lookup the Unicom frequencies, but shouldn't it be 122.8 instead?

The plants do not give off a signature. FLIR is used to find heat sources like kids in the bush or heat being pumped out of a grow room or a hot spot in the house.

According to "Canadian Airport Charts (Airport Diagrams)" published by Nav Canada at:

http://navcanada.ca/ContentDefiniti...rportCharts/CanadianAirportCharts_current.pdf

Page 220 of 545 shows Cornwall Regional Airport's Unicom frequency as 122.775 MHz., and I am hearing traffic from there at this time. Just not C-FOPP. But the search area is more than 5 NM from Cornwall Regional, so maybe that's why not hearing them. I have heard both OPP and RCMP helicopters on 122.775 previously while they were in this area, so that is why I went there first. Next time I'll also try 126.7.

Cornwall Regional might have been on 122.8 in the past, but they've been on 122.775 for some time now.

This publication from Nav Canada is a great guide for air band listeners. Just be aware that, like many aeronautical publications, a new one appears every 56 days. The current one is valid to 25 Sep 2008.

Ok, you ARE correct

weed grows hotter than corn (that would be a signature wouldn't it?)

Kids in a bush, poor parenting

The link worked for me, but maybe it's in my browser cache or something. I pasted in the entire link, it's the Radio Reference forum software that abbreviated it. OK, the long way;

Go to navcanada.ca
Select "English"
Left edge, under "Products and Services",
Select the sixth bullet "Canadian Airport Charts (airport diagrams)

Be patient, especially if you're not on high speed. Covering every airport in Canada, it's 545 pages and 59,694 MB in size. It is also incomplete; it only lists frequencies used at the airport, not the Area Control Centre, (except Departure) Flight Service Stations or remote comm sites. But I still find it very useful.

It's all in the TAFL as well, but I'm sure everyone here already knows about that. The Nav Canada publication tells you what the frequency is actually used for.

Also, I consulted an old (1999) Montreal VFR chart; Cornwall Regional Airport was using 122.350 MHz. back then, prior to adopting their current 122.775 MHz Unicom frequency.
