I was watching the news tonight they were showing an accident between two tractor trailers on the 401 down around the Chatham area. As they were interviewing an OPP officer I saw parked on the shoulder of the highway a Ford Mustang cruiser, fully marked. Quite a surprise I thought they only had cown vics and chargers.

Chatham-Kent detachment got this from ford as a demo car. Has a magnet mount VHF antenna and a spectra in it. I dont think the OPP owns the car. Does have the sticker exempt plate, but also has logos from the blackburn radio, victory ford some other emblem and on the rear window a thing about distracted drivers.

And nothing has been drilled into the car, the mirror light is suction cuped on too. Iv never saw this thing out on the road.. only sitting out front in their parking lot. They also had a HHR at one point too done up the same way

Anybody notice the "headwear" on the cop taking a picture in the 1st shot?
I am waiting to hear the 1st one that insists to wear his turban instead of a fire helmet..then i know it will be time to retire.....

crown vic is wider and heavier, makes a difference.having owned a Firebird and a Caprice Classic, the difference in the snow was night and day.

I've driven both a crown vic and a mustang, (not OPP's) I actually owned a mustang for a few years. Handles pretty much the same, mustang is a bit more squirrelly in the wintertime. Helps having weight in the trunk and a full tank of gas.

OPP had a "New Beetle" a few years ago too. Based on the promotional decals in the window of the Mustang it looks more like a promo car donated by Ford and will be seen inside malls more than on highways.

A good friend's son was with York Regional PD and had a buddy on the Metro force when they had the 2 Camaros. Both of those got trashed real fast back then.

Windsor Police had a Camaro in the late 1990's that mostly did patrol duty on the E.C. Row expressway. Before that they had a Mustang LX that was a total sleeper (it should have had a 302 but may have had a 351 V8 in it). It was fast and took down a few crotch rockets on the expressway in its day but I was told it tended to get a little squirrely above 100 mph.

Don't be fooled by the decals, this Mustang was sitting under an overpass clocking speeders... and it does have a hole drilled into the trunk lid.

This Mustang that I photographed had just arrived in London at the OPP Communications Centre Labour Day for their Communications Family Day. from a Ford Dealer ship in Chatham. It was just missing the crowns on the doors and where put on while I watched. It is on loan for a year as a Community Event Vehicle in the Chatham Kent Area.

The OPP also have a new car disguised in a regular CV. This one has 3 cameras on the roof of the car that takes pictures of license plates and instantly runs them through an onboard computer to check for suspensions, validation stickers, and unpaid tickets. you can see the camera pods on each side of the roof in front of the light bar. The 3rd one is behind the bar.
