Haven't heard anything in ages on SIM 1 but last night I heard some "car-to-car" with westbound units on the 401 near PIA.
The lead car would alert the following vehicle about potholes and other road hazards.
Just goes to show you not to be too hasty with your channel housekeeping.

For regular patrol vehicles, SIM1 and SIM11 are the only simplex channels available. I've heard SIM1 used for everything from chit-chat to surveillance to speed traps.

Regular patrol vehicles also have the simplex channels on the portables to use. I've found wide load escorts using PC1 before.

Yep, I hear occasional SIM1 activity in the Ottawa area.

In general, if a frequency is co-ordinated for use in a certain area, and
a user gives it up, it could well be re-assigned to another user in the same
area. I found this with some of the old City of Ottawa conventional VHF
channels.

SIM1 hasn't been re-coordinated. Anything you hear on 140.9700 is OPP - if it isn't, someone got their hands on a radio they shouldn't have :)
