Just catching some traffic with an Oregon Army Guard helicopter on 248.5 MHz.

The traffic passed seemed to be related to a medivac mission, mentioned the ground contact would be on 40.90 MHz FM.

I didn't catch were they were going, but did see on ADSB there was an OR Army NG UH-60 Blackhawk near Salem headed south.

Both 40.90 and 248.5 MHz are known OR guard frequencies.

Nice find there! Think I remember seeing that ANG helicopters can be called on to medevac injured wildland fire personnel, too.

Always great to hear someone monitor a military helicopter. Did the same with military JISCC packages, Joint Inter-Site Communications Capability kits of radios and computers with satcom to interface military and civilian communications.

As mentioned mostly for wildfires, emergencies, and training. Often times, the best contacts were the many helicopters flying around the area, completing specific missions. Some even carry Garmin Rino FRS/GMRS/GPS radios for Search and Rescue as well. Others have XTS or APX series Motorola handhelds in XTVA's, or have HF equipment on board too. And it is also common to hear comms in the clear as well, especially for mutual aid and support of first response elements.

Thank you for sharing.
