Sounds like both fire/ems and the sheriffs office would be on board for a new P25 trunking system. Sheriffs story and his vendor comments sounds like TRBO isn't working out so well. Some interesting comments in the video.

Thank you for posting this.

I find it sad that The Sheriff's office did not listen to the people when they were contacting him in regards to NOT buying the MOTOTRBO system. Communications Specialist are specialist of BS! The Sheriff confirmed that in this video!

Maybe now Orange can get some interoperability with Spotsy and the State along with surrounding municipalities. Maybe even some fancy new phase 2 with encryption!

Do not worry though.....Big Lee Frame is on board so will be the rest of the puppets. I think it is needed to have the P25 system, but they could have already been enjoying the perks of it if they went with it the first time.

I am all for it, but it better be done right this time around. I do not like wasting my money on taxes for some CHUMP Company to scam the Sheriff's department.

Unfortunately Madison, Greene, and orange went the trbo route. Would love to see a nice big 800 system. Can't see my local county (Greene) spending anymore money on radio upgrades for a long long time

I think the sheriff in a round about way admitted they made a mistake on the TRBO system. He's a good dude and I hope they are able to all work something out that benefits everyone this time. It's also good to see that Ms Tidey and Mr Harkness are being proactive in planning a solution instead of putting band-aids on things. Mr Crozier is also good folk and I was glad to see him elected.

It makes sense to go to P25 with Albemarle, Culpeper, and soon Spotsylvania using a P25 system. That's where a lot of your mutual aid comes from / goes to along with Louisa. If Orange and Louisa could work something out to reduce the cost of the initial system it'd be good for both counties. Maybe even Greene and Madison could pair up and jump on board in the future.

That is 100% correct StephenVa.

If they all get on board with the P25 (like they should have to begin with) then we would be covered better around the towns.

I think if the Sheriff reaches out to the other localities they will be informed and might wanna get on. Can you imagine how bad TRBO sucks for Green and Madison? They have nothing but woods to work in and around. I have only caught Greens Fire department once in the past 12 months of scanning...lol

I monitor Orange and let me tell you their radios are worth crap. I think they need this. I said it when Orange was going the trbo route, so did many other residents. Nice $75,000 lesson!

Sheriff Amos is a great person. Talked to him a couple times. You can see his and the Major's frustration in the video and how they got duped. This will make them very happy when they get it to go live.

I think the Sheriff should make a move and go after the Communication Specialist for selling them a system THEY new would NOT work correctly for the County. I would like to recoup some of that wasted money and roll it into the new system!

I imagine it's terrible. I used to listen to them before TRBO. I remember taking a brush truck up to Madison for that big forest fire years ago and it being spotty then and we were near each other.

That'd be nice. I think they've worn out their welcome locally. You'd think if they weren't living up to their end of the bargain then something could be done.

Going to a P25 is the only thing that makes sense

With Culpepper, Rappahanock (less important) along with Albemarle already being 800mhz it would be a cinch to make interops easy as pie. I ran EMS in Orange back in 2001-2002 and believe me mutual aide was a pain in the butt at times. Obviously having patches set up for ops with Greene and Louisa would be needed but thats alot easier then the alternative thats for sure.

It won't Comm Spec. I'll be quiet now
No, please fill us in if you know things. This help those who live in the towns get better information to share with one another and can help in persuading the town officials on what we as tax payers would like done.

I am 100% glad it will not be Communication Specialists. They SUCK!

I love how they start with needing new radios and now we are going to bend over backwards to get even more money for things that should have already been in place through out the entire County. IMO.

I forgot to post the second article when I had seen it back on the 28th of February.

Let the money pit begin!

Thanks for the information!

Is there current system a Capacity plus system? When I was down last week, my scanner had a hard time following it conventionally and the display of my 436 did come up CAP from time to time.

Looks like another begathon for another new radio system

Excuse me, but the Orange Co. "deciders" not so many years ago, chose DMR (MOTOTRBO) as the emission mode of choice which would solve their comm needs plus afford privacy from those "pesky" scanner monitors. It was their "end of the rainbow" radio system. If I were an Orange Co. tax paying resident I would make sure they heard my opinion loud and clear which would be "Tango Sierra"--you spent millions of our taxpayer dollars on a radio system which now doesn't have this or that or whatever. That's just too d----ed bad. We bought it for you and now you can live with it until we the taxpayers decide otherwise.

APCO P25 Phase 1 trs existed at that time. The "deciders" chose a different radio system emission mode for whatever reasons. "Buyers Remorse" is not a valid reason for another multi-million dollar expenditure for a radio system with more bells and whistles. Live with your interoperability issues. You should have considered that subject years ago and if so decided it was not a "game changer".

As far as I know, it is DMR applied to conventional frequencies. I don't regularly monitor it, but I have listened to the sheriff's office a few times. The sheriff has complained that the system doesn't provide enough coverage; perhaps that is related to your reception issues but that is just a guess.

I asked a simple question, but this response did not suffice what I was looking for.

Thanks I guess?!
