Hi all! I am new to this so forgive me for silly questions. Ok I get OC PD is digital and encripted. But is fire and EMS also? and if they are not can I get anything on my pro 95? My dear husband is not into this stuff and so he bought it and had told this sales person that he was buying it for his wife to listen to fire, PD, EMS and she said it could be done. I have now heard that its all digital and pointless to have my scanner is this true? Cause if so I am returning the darn thing...Sorry one more questions which is prob. very stupid one (remember i am a newbie at this) can I pick up other countys with it? llike San Diego and or LA, Riverside? I am in southern OC. If I picked up SD or something I might keep it or are they digital too? Thanks for the help sorry its so long.

Yes the Pro-95 will work for O.C. Fire and EMS. If you have not done it already get Win95 at www.starrsoft.com. you will need to get the cable you can get it ant RS, make sure it is the grey cable. It will make life great for programing the 95. The control channels and the talk groups can be found on this site.

I was told fire was also digital and encrypted. I am not saying you dont know I just want to make sure before I go to the trouble of getting the cable for the computer. Do you listen to them?

Fire and EMS are not digital in O.C.. I go to O.C. at least once a month if not more. I use my Pro-93 or Pro-95 on those trips. You can also track Disneyland if you like with the Pro-95.

Ok so getting the cable and program are the way to go then I guess. so does the program have all the freq. on it for the county?

You will have a very limited scanning experience in SoCal without a digital scanner. Living in OC, you can listen to analog fire and lifeguards in OC. (Law is encrypted and unmonitorable).

LAFD is analog, CDF, CHP, San Bern and Riverside are analog, but San Diego county law is digital (exception SDPD). SD county fire (exception Oceanside) is analog.

LAPD is digital unencrypted.

Bottom line, unless your purposes are limited and limited to specific areas, a digital scanner is a must in SoCal.

I do not agree where a digital is a must in SoCal. They only one I know is LAPD that is digital. O.C. law is encrypted so it does not matter what you have. All fire is open and if you are O.C. you can still get L.A. County Fire and sometimes L.A. City Fire which are both non digital. S.D. I am not too sure but I haven't been there in 4 years. The only radio that I found that does not work good in O.C. is the Pro-92/2067.

I don't own a Pro-95, so I can't attest to its ease in use or programming (ie whether or not the aforementioned cable/software package will make it easier, harder, whatever).

It all depends on what you want to here, and how badly you want to here it (ie how much $$). Fire/EMS, with the exception of the PIOs and the investigatiors, is wide open. You may here a little law enforcement on the analog mutual aid channels but that's it. Then you can step up to a digital scanner, where you can here all municipal services, some more EMS, and a little more law on the RED channel (lately I haven't heard anything on RED analog).

South county? Disneyland is in north county. Not gonna happen.

As for all of SoCal, not having a digital scanner will put limits on, but not grossly restrict, listening.

Hi,
Some of the fire,animal control talk-groups are digital. You will hear most of the fire but "Silver" channels etc. will require a pro-96.
