So I'll be in Orange County (Anaheim) in Mid October for a much needed vacation from Virginia. It's also been ten years since I've stepped foot there. I have a question about Metronet-North Cities. I do monitor via Broadcastify regularly, so I'm somewhat versed enough. Does Metronet assign a different tac for working incidents (I.E structure fires, accident w/ entrapment)? I'll hear the dispatch, but nothing else. I do hear the usual ops on the city tac TG's, but nothing on any active incidents. Am I missing something? Has my mind and hearing totally failed me? I'd like to get that figured out, I do a lot of Fire/EMS photography and that info will help to determine if it's worth going to. Any info is appreciated! I have a feeling I'm asking a stupid question here lol

Nah. Legit question! The assigned talkgroup is voiced in the dispatch. Usually they are on 2N for structure fires and heavy rescues (TC w/entrapment), I had heard that Metronet was remodeling, so they changed the talkgroup temporarily, but that was some time ago. 2M, 2N or 2O are used, but 99% of the time it's 2N.

2N is for metronet cities north of the 22 (Garden Grove) freeway. Alternates 2M & 2O
3N is for metronet cities south of the same freeway. Alternates 3M & 3O
4N & 5N are for the OCFA north and south county respectively
If you're bringing a scanner all these channels are encrypted as all other 800 MHz system fire channels and can't be heard except on broadcastify.

Good news, there are some VHF channels they use for wildfires and some remote rescues on OC Fire Access and state & federal frequencies these can be heard on a scanner. I think some of these are also on broadcastify.

Thank you for the info! That a big help, it's been way too long. I know about the encryption, I'll be bringing it for some stuff in the surround area. Thanks again!
