Orange PD

Does anyone happen to know if Orange PD is having radio trouble? For the past couple weeks their main dispatch channel has been coming in very weak. I'm less than 2 miles away and they were always very loud and clear. Last night there was non-stop static for about 10 minutes at one point. Their PD channel 3 and the fire dispatch channels are still loud and clear.

Agreed, Channel One has been terrible lately. They had a shooting two nights ago and from Newark I couldn't pick them up from my scanners or portable without reception problems. When they switched over to channel 3 for information, they came in loud and clear. I wonder what the issue is? Bigger question... Will they upgrade?

orange pd channel 1 477.2375 is a repeater located on a pole on top of the first mountain in west orange...at the orange water basin. off walker rd

the other channels are in orange at a lower location, probably their HQ

Thanks for the info. Do you know if West Orange uses that same tower? I have noticed the WO system seems weak also. Orange needs to fix this soon. Last night I heard an officer complaining that he couldn't hear dispatch because of poor reception.

No West Orange transmitters are located at the corner of Mount Pleasant and Prospect on that Tower. They have satellite receivers all over town

I used to be able to scan orange and west orange from NYC and now it's a no go. Listening late at night was a delight, I hope they fix it soon.

Looks like Orange PD is having radio problems again on channel 1. They have moved all dispatch and operations to channel 3.

It's funny I get OPD Ch 1 (not right now) clear as a bell in Essex County and all over, Ch 3 definitely lower, but I do get OPD 3 in places like NYC, I have to go East of Orange, I do not get it West (uphill).

I enjoy listening to them - hope they get it fixed.

Orange PD 1 is located on top of the mountain in West Orange on a small tower. Orange PD 3 is located down at orange PD headquarters.

It's been over a month now since channel 1 went down. I'm wondering if they are even going to bother fixing it at this point. Given that Orange PD is on T-band, I'm thinking they may eventually join NJICS.

They probably don't need to fix it. Orange is a small-town geographically and the intown repeater probably covers it just fine.

Yes they have been exclusively on channel 3 since mid-November. I also noticed they seem to never use channel 2 anymore. Just another thing that makes me think they will eventually move to a new radio system.

I noticed when they did have channel 2 some comms moved to channel 3, like sticky situations. Guess less signal, less ears. Lol.

For anyone keeping score, OPD is back on channel 1 as of this week. I also noticed some EMS traffic on Fire channel 2 that I have never heard before. Not sure if that is something new.

I was pleasantly surprised myself to see that OPD 1 was back.

I don't get OFD regularly where I am....so not sure on the EMS. Maybe the local EMS agency using Ch 2 for better comms in Orange.
