Would ordering this portable antenna *see trackback* be worth the upgrade from the standard antenna on the BC346XTC? To be more specific, I am looking to expand my trunking reception distance for MA State Police
(Motorola Type II SmartZone, Analog and APCO-25 Common Air Interface) for the MCI Shirley Prison frequencies (852.37500c and 853.32500c primaries) as well as MCI Bridgewater frequencies (852.56250c and 852.61250c primaries.) The second trunk I would like extended range on is the general Worcester, MA county frequencies (EDACS Standard, Analog.)

On a second note please let me know if you know of any antennas to help extend reception range of 154.00000-158.00000, (Southbridge,MA, not trunked)

Thanks!

The antennas supplied with the BC346 / 396 series are basically vhf (158) antennas. The SpectrumForce is resonant around 917 MHz but has decent response down to the mid 800s. It works fairly well for Vhf too.

I put one on my scanner to monitor MSWIN, l did see some improvement, but not what I was hoping for.

I have been using it almost exclusively for over a year and a half on my 436. I found it works very good on 700/800 and for me acceptable on vhf/uhf. What I like about it is that it is light and not too tall.
