Oregon Coast Guard & P25

USCG Station Coos Bay (and smaller stations under its command) use 172.3125 293 NAC for their primary channel and refer to it as "CG 121." Most of the transmissions are in the clear but sometimes encryption is used on the mobile side. 21A is their secondary channel and is always used when there is a helo involved.

Does anyone know if the Astoria, Portland, or Cape Disappointment, WA coast guard use P25?

Dunno, but thanks for the heads up on Coos Bay! Next time I am over at the coast I will have to plug in their newer freqs and see what comes up.

Most of the Coos Bay Coast Guard's motor life boats, the smaller boats, and the cutter Orcas can be heard on the P25 frequency. The base side is 99% clear P25 and the mobile side is about 15-20% encrypted...depending on what they are doing. (At least one of the MLBs always leaves the ENC switch on though). They almost always use P25 for their drills.

I have confirmed that Umpqua River & Siuslaw river stations also use this frequency.

According to the USCG website Station Coos Bay controls all of the waters from the OR/CA border to the Lincoln City area. Cape Disappointment, WA & Astoria control northern Oregon, & Portland controls the Columbia & Willamette Rivers.

Also good to know -- thanks! I was always curious if they were using the newer P25 stuff along the OR coast. The USCG-allocated Marine channels seemed awfully quiet last time I was over around Tillamook.

Wondering if there's a way you can incorporate that new info into the Wiki somehow...

The Coast Guard tends to add a "1" to the channel numbers for the P-25 channels in their radios...

Confirmed 162.325 is channel 111. The reason I wasn't sure about the names is that 172.3125 is Ch 121 but everywhere else it shows ch 128.

Various Sectors seem to use Net-128 as a Repeater with another NET-xxx as the input.

Sector Boston has Net-128 as a repeater with Net-113 as the input [Deer Island]

Thoughts? on where your Net-128 Repeater is ?

From what I can hear, 172.3125 Channel 128 is broadcast in three locations: Coos Bay / North Bend area, Winchester Bay, & Florence area. It always carries traffic from 165.3125 channel 121.

I don't think 128 is a repeater because when I listen to 172.3125 it behaves like a base / mobile frequency not a repeater..sometimes the base side comes in with a strong signal & the mobiles are too weak / vice-versa. If 172.3125 was a repeater, I should hear all units fine if I am stationary, I shouldn't have drastically different reception from one unit to the other (like a B/M channel). Units only use 165.3125 when they are within a few miles of the coast...if 172.3125 was a repeater receive they would be able to use it for 15-20+ miles out. I've monitored 172.3125 before & Coos Bay units covered Winchester Bay units..they didn't seem to notice because they were on 165.3125 simplex 20+ miles away and were not monitoring the higher power broadcast on 172.3125 that I was.
