My handy inflation app tells me that would be $840 today.

unfortunately for me the pro 2035 and 2042 didn't seem as good as the Pro 2006 in rf performance, have a 2042 and had to run filters to cut out interference on certain bands which for the 2006 wasn't a problem, dunno if my experience was unique I'd give up the 2042 extra features for the 2006 performance

Well Living in Utah,
There is not much interference to deal with, in my home town area
I use my 2042 for finding and auto loading (Analog) the VHF air and land mobile units.
I had a Pro 2006 back year ago when "Monitoring Times" was around.
Great receiver also.

However, that doesn't take into account that electronics overall have become more affordable.
A perfect example of that, again referencing a RadioShack product, is an 8.4 Megabyte external computer hard disk sold in the 1983 catalog for $4495! That's right: four thousand, four hundred and ninety five dollars, or $12,148 in 2021 dollars. Compare that to a Sandisk 128 GB flash drive sold today for $18.99.

When I bought my first computer in 1979 (Ohio Scientific Challenger 1P) it came with 4 KB of static RAM installed. There were sockets on the motherboard for an additional 4 KB but the computer store I bought the computer from wanted $100 for them. I found the same 4 KB of RAM chips from a company advertised in the back of an electronics magazine for only $50. What a bargain! I sent them a check and in only 6-8 weeks I had a whopping 8 KB of RAM in my computer! I thought at the time that nobody would need more than that...

Your experience is not unique. Monitoring Times reported that the 2035/2042 were not as good in rejecting interference as the 2006. Even now, the 2004/2005/2006 are considered among the best scanners in rejecting rf interference.
