To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anyone here know what a network error 0612 is telling me on an Orion?

The unit was installed in a desktop station and equipped with the digital remote option. The radio is
an 800 MHz model and is absolutely perfect. If I can get it running right, I'm sure I made a heck of
a good deal on it.

Not having any experience with the Orion specificly, but going on the general 'feel' of how GE / Ericsson / MA-Com do things, it appears as if each numerical error code is unique, that is they don't reuse numbers across DSP, Software, Feature etc. error categories.

Error 612 talks of the control unit addressing...? Ah, you mention that your Orion had a digital remote option. Could it be the Orion is expecting the digital remote to act as the CU, and when you try to use an normal CU the Orion can't correctly address it, given it was expecting to see the digital remote instead? Perhaps the "network" part of the error is a red herring?

Well, frankly I made a big mistake...I forgot to read the current codeplug out of this radio before replacing it with my own. Brain fart. So I lost the workable configuration.

I have picked up that if you have two control heads on the same radio and it's not set up for dual control
heads, you'll get that error. But I don't have two control heads on it. Just the one on the radio.

Problem solved, thanks to the TAC.

This issue is addressed by writing a control head file to the radio and then reflashing the radio with a repair flashcode, and after this is done, reprogramming the radio with the latest appropriate radio code file.

Product: D2, Orion
System: EDACS, Conventional
Part Number: Various
Maintenance Document: LBI 38901
Category: Mobile
Subject: Orion and Error 0612
Summary: Orion Control Head displays “ERR = 0612” and the radio no longer functions. The radio will not respond to user input.
Action: To clear the ERR=0612 condition, and prevent it from occurring again, the Orion must be re-flashed with a “repair” flash code and re-programmed with a keypad file. This will repair the control head EEprom and load in the correct CU_ID. Once the control head is repaired the Orion must be re-flashed with a final release of flash code to prevent the error from re-appearing.
If there are dual control heads, connect them both to the radio before loading flash code during part 1 of the procedure. Both heads will be fixed at the same time.
Part 1 - Repair Control Head EEprom
1) Select "Mobile Option..." from ProGrammer - Program Radio Setup.
2) Re-flash ORION with the "repair" flash code OG45498.biz. Select "Write System Keypad File" or "Write Scan Keypad File” before writing flash code.
3) Cycle Power on the radio. The Control Unit(s) should come back to life.
Part 2 - Load final flash code into ORION
Once the control head(s) are repaired, load the final flash code to the radio.
1) Re-flash ORION with flash code OG46402.biz or later (normal operating code).
2) Cycle Power on the radio. The Control Unit(s) and radio should look normal.
3) Reprogram one control head to CU_B if you are running a Dual Control configuration.
NOTE: DO NOT leave the "repair" OG45498.biz flash code file, that fixes the control head, in the ORION. The ORION must be re-flashed a second time with the final flash code (OG46402.biz) before returning the equipment to service.
Contact Software Services @ 1-800-528-7711 (press option 3) to obtain the latest versions of Flash codes.
