• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

There is a way to do it, and the information is posted somewhere on this board, but I can't find it. What you can do is put each frequency in channels 1 thru 20, using 5 different banks, in your scanner. To clarify this, put the first frequency in channels 1 thru 20 of one bank, then the second one in channels 1 thru 20 of another bank, and so on. Then watch your scanner and when there is activity on a frequency, whatever channel it appears on is the LCN for that frequency. Again, to clarify, if the first frequency becomes active and appears on, say, channel 5 of the bank, then the LCN for that frequency is 5, and so on for the rest of them.

You can also monitor the system conventionally, by simply putting the frequencies in your scanner , in any channels, in the conventional mode, just like you would enter a conventional frequency. You won't, however, be able to determine talk groups and will hear all activity on the system.

All of this information applies to standard LTR systems. There are other types of LTR systems that, I think, can't be monitored, I'm not sure. I'm not really up on the different types, but maybe someone could shed some light on this.

NOTE- This works on all except the BC246T.

The way the 246 is set up according to owners of it, makes that method nearly impossible.

Then let's hope tippeyb isn't trying to program a 246T. I can't understand why these manufacturers have to make things so difficult for people sometimes.

This is confusing. What do you mean just put them "as is"? Where did you see it written that it is an EDACS system? What "tone" are you talking about? :?

If you want to listen to a LTR standard trunking system in trunk tracking method, and you are not using a Pro-92/2067 and the radio you have is capable of doing LTR, then you must put them in LCN order. The only radios I ever heard of, that do LTR, and don't need to have the channels in LCN order are the Pro-92 family of radios. :)

An EDACS system is going to have a control channel. An LTR system won't. Either way, listening conventionally isn't going to give you the whole picture since trunking will not be occurring.

true there edac has a control channel but its not an ltr system its a conventional system, there useing, these are the numbers 854.287,main channel they use,and they rest are different chaneels like 2,3,or 5 but what i did when i put mine in my radio is like this i first went to the 854.287 then to the rest of the freq numbers and i pick them up just fine, and i,ll give another example why is slidell type 2 when you can hear them on a type 1 system?,SO like i,m saying just put them in as conventional and you will be able to hear them .
look at the fcc and it will speak for itself WNHS292,,WNQC758.
 i,ll let the people in the forum decide what it is (OUT my hands now )
All i will say is i,m glad i can hear them

WNQC758 is licensed as a trunked system with the freqs the original poster used. Your 854 freq is listed as the same user but a conventional transmitter.

No doubt you can listen to any trunked system conventionally whether LTR, EDACS or Motorola type I or II, but why would you want to? The guy asked about the LCN for the system, I'm sure if he wanted to listen conventionally he could do that as well but he wants to listen as the system was intended.

Listening to any TRS conventionally is a PITA if they get busy. You will miss comms and get walkover and other issues... Not to mention on EDACS you will get lost in the beep beep beep jungle! That was the way it used to be, and thank God for Trunking Scanners!

Exactly my point.

Now, what is needed here is tippeyb to come back in and tell us for sure that they are using the system as a trunking system. It would not be the first time that an agency licensed frequencies for one thing and used them for some other purpose.
