OSHP Codes and Signals

Hello All,

I am hoping that someone out there can provide the signals for the OSHP. A friend of mine is entering the academy and said the OSP does not supply you with the signals until you are a cadet.

The codes, however, are posted on Radio Reference. However, there are certain things that troopers say over the air that dont make sense when applying the signals to the RR list. For instance, a trooper used signal 100 the other night, but that is not applicable to the list on RR.

They just use what wv_mountaineer has posted and have for years!

I hear them use the word "signal" before a number all the time. Signal 37 - disabled vehicle, Signal 31A - injury accident, Signal 3 - out of service. Etc. I've never heard them say the word "code" in front of any of the numbers on the list above.

What "WV_Mountaineer" posted is accurate. There are no codes. That is what they use, signals.

Many sheriff departments (if they follow the BSSA conventions) in Ohio use "signal" for odd numbers and "codes" for even numbers, or maybe it's the other way. Perhaps that's what OSP does as well?

Nope, never heard OSP use Code, always Signal. Sometimes they don't bother with saying Signal, they just say the numerics, i.e. "Respond to a 31A."
