Hi,

I live in Lake County and would like to listen the OSHP Turnpike TG's and Post 18. Should I enter the Lake County MARCS control channels? I see all the talk groups in the RR database, but unsure of what control channels to use. With the Lake County control channels, I am hearing Post , 28 and Ravenna HQ, not the TPike or P-18

Thanks Very Much

kcpd8,

The OSP radio's are setup to (affiliate) work in the counties they are assigned to. So you may not hear Turnpike traffic in Lake County.

There are some exceptions. In my case, I'm in Cuyahoga County. I hear OSP traffic from as far away as Sandusky, Lorain, Medina, Ashland, Summit and Stark counties on a regular basis. This happens when they run joint operations on the Interstates and Turnpike.

If you live in Willoughby I think you probably can hear Cuyahoga sites. Try programming them in and have your TGs enabled.

OSP Monitored from MARCS Cuyahoga Cnty Site

Here are the MARCS-IP Cuyahoga Site control channel frequencies: 774.781250, 773.831250, 774.281250, 774.531250

Depending on the type of scanner you have, I would suggest that you setup Lake and Cuyahoga Counties in their own Scan Lists or Favorites Lists.
Just for grins, here is a list of OSP Talk Groups that I've monitored from the Cuyahoga Site:

It will be tough to hear the turnpike unless you are close to a site that is active with it's traffic. They have designed the system to only broadcast to talk groups that have active radios within that site. So if I'm in Lorain county and want to listen to a Columbus talk groups I won't get anything unless someone from Columbus is in the Lorain area and the radio is set on a Columbus talk group.
Best thing to do is get a good directional antenna and point it at a site within the turnpike area. I can pick up Lake county from southern Lorain with a directional antenna.

The Willoughby/Wickliffe tower has both Lake County MARCS Simulcast and Cuyahoga County MARCS Simulcast. If kcpd8 lives in the western half of Lake County there shouldn't be a problem monitoring the Cuyahoga Site.

FYI: When the Cuyahoga Site first went active I monitored the testing. The Concord Fire Station was able to access (affiliate with) the Cuyahoga Site.
