I just (finally) returned home from the burial and memorial service for my father. He was interred last Monday (5/2/05) in Jackson, MO. Due to his having been a Navy aviator and Lt. Commander during WWII, there was an honor guard at the internment. USN petty officers stood at the head and foot of the casket, 3 Marine sergents fired a salute, and a VFW member played Taps. I have no way of knowing who these people were (the female petty officer had a shoulder flash that had something about Cape Girardeau on it), so I have no way of thanking them personally, but I would like to express my deepest appreciation to them and others like them who turn out to present the honors to our departed loved ones.
Thank you and God Bless You, one and all!
