OT - Why Planes Can't Fly Through very thin Volcanic ash clouds

I figure that people interested in monitoring aircraft would be interested in this Docudrama about a plane that went through a thin ash cloud near Indonesia.

That's a different "type" of ash, I don't think that is a similar to setup to what is happening now.

well generally any engine that requires clean oxygen to operate , will be affected to some degree by any type of foreign objects , or ash ingested , you've probably seen pics of the ash on cars after a volcano
I cant imagine any engine would run well trying to breathe that,..
from the news it seems that the ash cloud is going to cause problems for a while , & it may not even be done erupting,..not too often do you see an ash advisory.
