Ottawa Fire Dept. seems to have been using MABAS Hazmat (4827) for a few days now. I just heard them send "Medic 6" to an accident on Norris Dr.

The radio IDs I don't recognize - 429118, 429119, 429144, 429145 etc, Ottawa Central Dispatch uses 410548 but "Fire Dispatch" on 4827 has been using 429145. I still hear them on VHF so I don't know what they're doing :) MABAS Hazmat has been in use quite a bit around here since the fire at Carus Chemicals in LaSalle a couple of weeks ago.

They've been using it since Christmas 2022, I sent it in on 1-14 to be changed but admins are claiming its still the MABAS hazmat talkgroup based off a document from 2021. Probably will end up not being added, which is mostly why I don't submit things anymore.

According to the Radio Reference STARCOM21 wiki, it appears that 429xxx RIDs are primarily used by MABAS and US&R IL-TF1 units. STARCOM21 Statewide Illinois-RID 22 - The RadioReference Wiki

Ottawa had some type of radio system failure. They have borrowed cache radios from MABAS and are using a MABAS talk group until repairs can be made to their system.

Ottawa had there entire radio repeater system go down that is why they are using starcom hazmat. LaSalle Co EMA loaned them 31 radios until the radio system is fixed. They were told the fix would be anywhere from 3-8 weeks

also they are using both vhf and starcom because the radios in the vehicles have enough power to communicate with dispatch but the portables wont reach so that is why they are using both

Thank you for that! It explains the radio service testing I've been hearing on their VHF channel for the last couple of days too! Thank you
