Good day guys,
I'm an aviation hobbyist more than a radio amateur, i acquired recently an RTL-SDR dongle (RTL820T) to listen to the air traffic band, and decode ADS-B/ACARS messages, the airport is about 15 miles. I am using an antenna similar to this one:

Due to surrounding obstacles and buildings near my room, i decided to try this antenna in my roof, the height improved my reception, now i can listen to traffic at farther distance then before, some transmissions are strong, others are weak, the problem is i have a static noise very high which is very disturbing to my ears and for good perception of weak signals showed in the waterfall diagram of SDR# software where i have to raise the audio output volume to get a chance to hear what was transmitted. Any idea how to improve this point? any recommendation?
My other question, which is the more important, in the top of the roof where there is already a satellite dish installed, i found a part of a metal coming out from one of the pillars, the metal is about 3ft long, and is the highest part at the roof, i want to profit from this and use it as a mast for my antenna, is this possible ? do i need to ground the antenna after fixing it to this pillar? knowing this is a mobile antenna, can i use it as an outdoor antenna? how to protect it from outdoor risks? I'm planning to construct also a dipole antenna to compare performance, your recommendation are welcome.

Thank you in advance for you help.
