Outdoor rooftop antenna picking up analog but sucks at getting digital.

That would be a pretty good setup.

The county run radio shop here where I live has a log periodic antenna (a multi frequency directional antenna) mounted on a rotor on top of a tower. Handy for tracking down interference for those guys. Great resource for a scanner listener.

In some metropolitan areas of the country the 420MHz band has been used for LMR.

Amateur radio is secondary on the 70CM band. Primary use is "radio location". Part 90 is in there also.

Have you tried turning on the HP1's at attenuator?

I don't know if it will help, but it is a quick and free test to try on a P25 system which might be exhibiting simulcast distortion. If you do turn it on, it might create problems when receiving other systems/frequencies..

I did read a posting on the Uniden Home Patrol forum that the attenuator add -20db (of signal loss).
