• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey everyone - I'm new to the DMR world, and recently purchased a PD682 from Hytera - I've heard that programming for many of their radios (along with Motorola's handsets?) can be done over the air (i.e., via communication with a base station), and similar messages can be sent over the air for pseudo-trunking (which is apparently close to Tier III)? I crawled YouTube and every other site I could think of to find information on this, but didn't come up with anything useful.

Does anyone here have any experience with the messages used to do the programming over the air, or the messages used for pseudo-trunking, and if so, could you explain how all of this works to me please? Thanks!

Should we assume you're using this two-way radio for monitoring only, and that you wouldn't be an authorized user on the system of interest? From what I know, over-the-air programming would be available only to users whose radios have been authorized by the radio system administrator. We use Motorola DTR-series radios at my job. They can be remotely programmed, but the person performing this has to first register the target radio's unique ID in the programming software so it is properly directed to that radio.

Sorry, pardon the lack of clarity - the Hytera is solely for monitoring now - I'm just interested in how over-the-air programming works, from an educational standpoint - as in, what signals are sent over the air to program/upgrade/etc. radios?

On Motorola DMR systems, over the air programming (OTAP) is accomplished via a server and software called Radio Management (RM). The RM server sends private data call messages to the radio to update the radios codeplug. The system admin interfaces with the RM server with a piece of software called Configuration Client. You need Motorola software to OTAP Motorola radios, Hyterra software to OTAP Hyterra radios, etc. TT
