There are differences in bandplans, but on P25 I think it would fill in the table for you. You should look at the database for the places you'll be going to to to be sure, not to mention the laws (or repercussions) on scanning in the country your planing to visit. Some of those countries also use trunking modes not supported by any scanner, such as TETRA in the UK for instance.

There is an Australian/New Zealand version of the 396T, but at this stage there are apparently no plans for a U version of the 396XT. Having said that, I use a 396XT in Australia with no problems at all. All I did was modify the some of the channel spacings to match the Australian bandplan.
