I am looking for help from anybody who is familiar with scanning in the Owasso / Collinsville area. I recently bought a RS Pro 95 with all of the Owasso Trunk Groups programmed in it. I have been able to catch all of the Police traffic with no problems. However, starting two days ago, I noticed that the traffic has considerably went down to virtually nothing in the late evenings. Owasso is not the busiest, but there should be some chatter most of the time. Anybody know what might be going on?

I also have the Collinsville Police frequencies programmed into my scanner. I can hear the dispatcher perfectly fine, but 80% of the time I cannot hear the police officers. The other 20% of the time the signal is very weak and alot of static. Any information or help is greatly appreciated!!

Owasso may not be thar busy late in the evening. They have usually 3 ro 4 officers on duty. You might also want to monitor their old vhf freq. as their reserves use than freq.

Collinsville is a simplex system. Ie the Dispatcher has a base radio and a big antenna. the officers in the field do not. I can pick them up on my mobile in Tulsa so you may need to get a outside antenna.

rholsapp,

Welcome to the *Oklahoma* group here at rr.com!! :)

Your right, Owasso can be really dead sometimes. I use to live @ N96th and Hy. 75 and could pick up the Tulsa trunked system (which also has OHP on it) without any problems. YMWV of course. As okla-lawman said about the low band .. lots of low band activity, be sure to plug those in.

If you have not already done so, get a programming cable for your 95. It will make your life so much easier. ;)

Owasso Talk groups

How many talk groups do you have listed for Owasso? The database only shows 3 i think, but in id search i've found others. can u post the talkgroups id # and who they belong too please??? Thanks! u might also want to program limestone and NW Rogers county fire depts in your scanner if u don't have it allready. they are pretty busy sometimes. they're on 154.160 and 153.770, respectively.

Owasso does not have a big system. I think 3 sounds about right. The state/tulsa system is getting pretty full. Coweta should be coming on it soon. You might want to program Rogers co and Washington co. owasso
has expanded into Rogers co.

Phil are related to Mike Smith at Sperry? Did you get you 800 antenna?
I was moving around a little today and tried to find a larsen 800 I bought but never used but no luck so far.

All,

Thanks for the advice in helping this newbie out :D . Someone had suggested a product made by GRE that is an amplifier that fits between the scanner and the antenna. This supposedly will boost the signal and cut down on the static that I hear. Has anyone ever used this product before? Does it work well?

As far as talkgroup IDs, I'm not sure how to look that up on my scanner. Radio Shack had all of the surrounding area frequencies programmed into my scanner. The manual is hard to follow, so I'm not sure how to view the talkgroup IDs. I'm still learning my scanner :D

The gre preamp works well. I have a Diamond amp in my patrol car and it does help brimg in those weaker signals. Two problems with it for your application. The stock radio shack antenna sucks. They make an improved version that is alot better or better yet go with an Austin electronics condor. Of course for best reception you need and antenna outside of your house or car. Even with the amplifier it has to have something to amplify zero times ten is still zero. The other problem is that if it is cranked up to pick up collinsvile it may cause overload on the Owasso freqs and reduce your reception.

Loose the manually programing. Go to radio shack and get the programming cable. Download win 95 from here and viola. Or better yet get a hold of someone who has a pro 95 or 2067 and just get them to clone it. It takes about 5 minutes.

Welcome to the Owasso area. I have notice that PD has been slow in Owasso lately. There are four Main Talk Groups. (2) for PD and (2) for Fire and EMS. The Road Crews or Animal Control also have a talk group but I don't have them written down. I have heard a Talk group for a Patch between Roger County SO vhf and Owasso, But haven't heard being user in few years. (I have to find that TG)

Rogers County SO. can get some interesting calls during the evening hour. Also area FD like Collinsville, Collinsville Rural, Limestone (150.7750) and NW Roger Fire. Have some good call every once in a while.

Don't forget Med-Tech (160.170)

From My location Just NE of Owasso I can also pick up Washington Co Department.

Owasso PD's VHF talkround frequency is (155.775) used by both dispatch and mobiles. Just like Rush said you might program in...

Washington County SO 159.15

Rogers County SO 154.77

Med Tech EMS 160.17

Catoosa FD 151.19 also on Tulsa's 800 (35664)

Verdigris FD 154.16

Northwest FD 154.415

Limestone FD 150.775

Tulsa County SO Low Band car to car 155.07 (This is very active and they like to BS about calls and everything else)

Thanks for all of the frequencies!! I do have a couple more questions...

I haven't figured out what area the Med Tech EMS frequency covers? Where are they based?

Also, I noticed that the RR database lists two old Police frequencies for Owasso (153.905 and 155.865). Does anybody know if the Owasso police still uses these frequencies? (I just get a high pitched tone on the 155.865 ever so often).

I also have the 155.775 frequency listed for Owasso Police car to car. Is this a second radio that the police carry around when they want to talk off the record (I assume the same thing for the Tulsa County SO that Peterjmag was so kind to provide)? Thanks for any info provided!! :D

Actually the company is called Med-Tec. They are based in Claremore but they are dispatched out of Foyil.

Med Tec

Two bravo is right they cover the city of claremore and surrounding area. They are starting to get some competition from Ollagah Talala EMS though. They are dispatched by NW Rogers CO. Also, I was listening to Claremore Fire about 15 mins. ago and they're chasing a train through town that is spilling sand all through down town!!

I live in the Collinsville / Owasso area and have observed the following Talk Groups on the Owasso Trunked System:

01040 ----- PD Dispatch
01104 ----- PD Car 2 Car ----- Also known as Channel 4-Charlie
01232 ----- Unknown ?
01264 ----- Unknown ?
01840 ----- FD Dispatch ------ Medics also dispatched on this channel
00336 ----- ANIMAL CNTRL
02416 ----- OPWA CH 9-A ---- Public Works - Channel 9 - A
02480 ----- STORMWATER ---- Heard only once during period of local flooding
02544 ----- OPWA CH 9-E ---- Public Works - Channel 9 - E
02576 ----- Unknown ?
02592 ----- OWPA CH 9-F ----- Public Works - Channel 9 - F
00592 ----- OPWA * WATER ----- Public Works - Water Department
02640 ----- OPWA * TRASH ----- Public Works - Trash Department
00624 ----- Unknown ?
02768 ----- Unknown ?
02800 ----- Unknown ?

Don't forget to program 155.775 into the same bank as your other Owasso frequencies. This is referred to as "Old Side". This is the channel that you will hear the most casual conversations on.

Collinsville dispatch has always been strong. I have been able to receive their transmissions in Tulsa with just a handheld scanner with a stock whip antenna. Within the last couple of months, I have been able to pick up the patrol officers making their rounds or on a traffic stop with the use of a mobile magnetic mount antenna on top of my computer hutch.

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, just ask.
