There have been quite a number of messages lately that say something along the lines of 'I just got this scanner (insert model) and I don't know how to program it'.

We have 3 articles that would be good places for these folks to start. They cover the old but still widely used PRO-96 up to and including the WS-1065 (the Whistler clone to the PRO-197)

Getting Started with your PRO-96 or PRO-2096 - The RadioReference Wiki

Getting Started with your GRE/RS Object Oriented Scanner - The RadioReference Wiki

Program your DMA Scanner - The RadioReference Wiki

The GRE and Uniden articles have the links to their respective Easier to Read manuals.

It should be noted that the second article was coded long before Whistler came to the scanner market, but the new Whistler models are mentioned there.

So if you see a message that has a 'How do I get started' message, consider pointing them here. As always, if there's something missing or incorrect, feel free to add it.

(deliberate bump)

As you can see we have a number of 'Getting Started' articles for various scanners; but the one series we don't have covered would be the Uniden HP series (the HP1, HP2, 436HP and 536HP)

Surely there's something out there that we can build a 'Getting Started' article for each of the 4 above scanners (apart from the Easier to Read guides, of course). So how about it, folks? How about some links that would give a complete newcomer a place to go, much like has already has been done for the other scanners?

If they would search they would find several from the past. But I am for trying to help where I can.
One that comes to mind is the USB driver Issue for Whistler.

The USB driver issue from Whistler (??) should be documented in our Connecting Scanners via USB article. That article is linked in each of the 3 articles mentioned above, and is worth adding.

However your assumption here that someone would be able to find something via searching assumes that person knows for what they are searching. When you're a newcomer, that might be a stretch - they are, after all, starting off from the ground up, and often have no idea what they really need to know. These articles are not meant to be comprehensive - there's LOTS more behind them - but just a place to start. Even with the HP series, you gotta start somewhere...
