I just heard a Mequon Fire page on TG 15-157, which is listed as "systemwide patch"

Any ideas what the "systemwide patch" is used for?

It seems that fire/EMS pages for Mequon go out over that -- not sure if I've ever heard anything else. Ah -- Mequon just did the 6:30 PM paging test, and it showed up on 15-157 and 02-021 (Meq. Fire Command), and on VHF 154.16 MHz (Ozaukee County Fire Page), simultaneously. Sometimes my Uniden 996T will display the name "Systemwide Patch" for 15-157, or like a few minutes ago, it'll show "Meq Fire Command" (normally 02-021) for 15-157. Weird.

may I ask why folks recently have chosen to use AFS talk group ID's instead of the simple decimal equivelants? Just seems easier to me to call it 2047 instead of 15-157. Not implying anything here.. just wondering

Re: 2047 "system-wide patch"

That is generally active when any sort of patch is in effect. The BC-780 is a great scanner for EDACS as it will show all channels involved in a patch on the display. It will flash generally 3 talkgroups on the display; the two talk groups patched together and 2047 so it is basically a "link between". The 996 and 396 don't seem to behave this way. They will show one of the tallk groups involved.

AFS is easier for my brain to keep track of since it groups things xx-yyy, where xx doesn't change for a whole group of TG's.

I prefer Hex over decimal for Motorola TRS' also for the same reason.

On the Ozaukee County EDACS TRS system it's handy to use AFS because of its structure. Generally, 02-xxx = fire, 03-xxx = fire, 04-xxx = police, 06-xxx = sheriff, 08-xxx = highway, 09-xxx = DPW. Then, for example with fire: 02-02x = Mequon, 02-03x = Mequon, 02-04x = Thiensville, 02-05x = Thiensville, etc.

Tnx for reminding me about the 780. Mine is on loan to a relative, and I like some of its features compared to my 996. I always liked the appearance of the 780 display, and the ability to turn off the "numbers" when desired. But the memory management on the 996 sure is nice.

Today there was a structure fire in Waubeka (or maybe Fredonia) they had mutual aid from Sheboygan Co,and set up a Ozaukee/Sheboygan patch.
Command said use "Waubeka Water" for the patch.
Here is what the BC246 showed.
03-010 & 15-154 both showed in display
or so Mike won't feel left out, this would of showed in his display 392 & 2044 ;-)
