• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm wanting to start checking the programming of all the P1225's we have. Not sure how many, if any, are actually set for narrowband.
Years ago, we could program these radios, but someone pitched the computer I used to do it on, and I can't seem to get the software running on the newer machines at work. I have not programmed one in years, because of this.

Here's a list of everything I'm working with:
The software is HVN9054D Version 3.2
The computer it's installed on is running Windows 2000 Version 5.0. (Build 2195:Service Pack 3).
This computer is not on the internet, it would be possible to do a Windows update if someone thinks it may help.
Both the radios I tried this week are model P94ZRC90C2AA.
The programmer is HLN9359A, The RIB box is RLN4008B.
All hardware is genuine Motorola.

The error I get is:

Error: Radio is not active
Check the following:
1 ) Connection from the RIB box to the radio.
2 ) Power supply for the radio.
3 ) Is the radio on?

The radio battery is new. The radio is on. The battery in the RIB box is new. The RIB box is turned on.
I've tried to select all four comports. Port 1 and 2 give me the above error message. Port 3 and 4 just say "you don't have this port".
I can program GP300's and CDM1250's just fine thru the same cable and RIB box.

If it's a version issue, I'll buy new software, I just want to make sure it works on the computer I got before I buy it. I'd kinda like to get it to work on the machine described above, since that's where the rest of my programming software is.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I've been told that 1225 RSS ver 3.2 will only work on Windows 98 and earlier. I know it won't work on XP for sure, but not sure about 2000.

Correct, there is a later version of the RSS that runs on 2000. XP needs the latest RSS.

version 4 will run on xp perfectly
If you try to run version 3.2 on anything later than win98 it will give you the errors that you are seeing.
RSS v3.2 can not grab the com port with win2k or later.

I did, and I tried those. I ran both versions on their prospective platforms with no success.

P1225 Programming

I know you said you had all Motorola hardware...does that include Motorola batteries?

The programmer stand will generally not work with aftermarket batteries. You must have a Motorola battery to make it work. We bought a battery to keep with our programmer because we had customers come in with non-Moto batteries and we couldn't reprogram their radios.

I think I have tried the LS software. Does the LS model have the DTMF keypad on it?
