• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hi,
is it possible to patch P25 to Opensky using Kenwood NX series and Harris M7300? Our dispatch is able to but we are trying to do it ourselves in the truck. Thanks

Google acu 1000. It’s a device that both radios would hook to which would then allow you to patch groups/freqs from each radio. It wouldn’t be a cheap thing to do. There may be cheaper options but if your looking to just directly connect your two radios I don’t believe that’s possible.

Are both the OpenSky and P25 system part of the same VIDA platform? If so, this is a console patch with transcoding at the system level. If they arent, the next best method would be with a donor radio from one into the console system of the other. I would do radio to radio patches in the field only as an absolute last resort both due to reliability as well as the fact that an operator of a Gateway device that isnt very well trained can cause more problems than they solve. Further if two Gateway devices get turned on, you effectively end up rendering both systems useless.

The NX-5000 has a DB-25 connector on the rear. From the connector you can pull audio out from the radio, push to talk, audio in and a COR (Carrier Operated Relay) that can be used to trigger the PTT on the OpenSky radio.

You can use something like the ACU-1000, or you might be able to build your own. Just takes some work to get the levels correct.

Also, running from Digital to analog then back to Digital usually just amplifies any inherent crappyness in the digital-ness of the audio.

On a few events over the years we did use the ACU-M to patch/link opensky to P25. It will work but isn't the best as others have said. The ACU-M is nice for a truck as it can be managed completely with push buttons.
