If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Here are the programming pages in the MBITR software for DES and AES, pretty simple and you don't need an expensive keyloader just the programming software and cable. I've seen Fascinator in Sabers where the radio appeared to be stock and other versions where the radio had an extra 3/4" thick section with a toggle switch on the side. I've also seen Fascinator available in several other mil radios. I had a couple of Sabers or System Sabers that had Fascinator modules pulled out and a friend had to spend quite a while figuring out how to bridge all the missing connections so the radio would work without the module.

I’ll try and program some p25 conventional stuff into the XG-100M tonight. I don’t have the low band amp, but I have the option installed so I can at least see if it will take the program…

So it seems like the XG100M is only approved for the 16K0F3E emissions designator in low band. Haven’t had a chance to try and program low band for P25 but I have a couple of days off soon and will see if it yells at me.

There has supposedly been a quantity of about 100 RF Technology Eclispe 3's that have been filled to a US .gov agency in a low band variant which are "not restricted from using P25 on low band" as the reciter module for the E3 is SDR based and covers VHF-Low, VHF-High, UHF, 700 and 800. I haven't talked to the guys over at RFTA about the super secret squirrel stuff they've been doing for a few years though...

I spoke with RFT last month about an order we are ready to place. I got to talking about low band and the tech confirms that the Eclipse 3 will do P25 low band. He went as far to say it will go as low as 25MHz!

Is there anyone who currently (or recently?) makes a P25 Low Band radio? I've recently been toying with setting up a Low Band system on Itinerant freqs, I'm guessing it won't be possible but I just thought I'd check if anything might be available in P25 or possibly another digital protocol.

So I had this idea. I wanted to take a low band Motorola Maratrac which interfaces very similar to the rest of the 16 pin motorolas, and interface it to a VHF or UHF CDM, CM, etc. series. I would interface them using a MMDVM on which ever digital protocol I feel like, and repeat this same setup at another location.

I would then talk into the VHF or UHF radio using an actual digital radio.

The Maratrac and CDM would not do the digital encoding rather the portable would. The MMDVM would allow the older equipment to pass the digital data over low band, and the far end would pass it to the other user with the dame type of portable.

Not sure it it will work, MMDVM seems affordable enough to try. MMDVM will support P25, Fusion, DMR, NXDN and other modes.

The older radios work simply as a messenger and not as a unit that actually encodes/decodes the digital. That is the job of the portables.

Can confirm that the XG-100M (or rather rpm) will NOT allow programming p25 in the low band. Whenever you enter a low band frequency into a p25 conventional frequency set, rpm selects ‘analog’ and ‘wide’ while greying out other options. I suspected this would be the case…

I think the XL-200m has an exciter output for low band. I'm ordering a bunch of those and will have to give it a try. Might need to creatively procure a low band amplifier.
Are you able to order low band with your XL-200M's? I was last told they were not offering low band in the 200s yet but it could be updated later in the firmware if they received a big enough push or order for it.

Wasn't an option when I was putting together our order. I seem to recall a similar explanation at IWCE when I asked about it. Sounds like the radio has the capability.

In theory the MMDVM wouldn't even be necessary if passing flat audio in a transparent repeater configuration, if I remember correctly.

I know too little about digital to ask any followup questions, but would be interested to know if that's true.

What frequency specifically?
I've been receiving a new digital signals in low vhf that I want to identify
