I live in south richmond, ca. I programmed my radio to listen to Oakland/Piedmont are but I am not picking up any signals. I would like to purchase an antenna so that I may be able to pick up oakland , alameda county.
Is there also some meter that I may use to test the signal coming from my existing all purpose scanner antenna (30ft ) no signal?

Are you able to pick up the NOAA Weather Radio stations? That will help in telling you to tell you the gain of your antenna. You should be getting at least something from Oakland>

Ah - is the antenna an 800 MHz antenna. Most have that capability to varring degrees, I have an all ban antenna that lost is's 800 band ability. Are you able to get the BART traffic and SF trunking systems?
