Can someone tell me what are the optimal settings for P25 adjust mode and P25 adjust level on a Uniden BCD996XT scanner while trying to monitor Toledo / Lucas county 800Mhz trunked frequencies.
I have the new firmware and have tryed what others have suggested adjust mode of 11 and adjust level at 50 and still get nothing. I did have it at 7 and 20 but the modulation was not consistant and would break up at times.
Any suggestion?

You aren't going to get a 996 to receive Lucas County well. They are a simulcast system and the problem is that you will pickup several transmitters from Tiffin. Your scanner is trying to sync up to two or more data streams with one stream slightly delayed so your decoder can't tell which data bit is the correct one. Commercial 2-way radios can copy it almost error free but it takes a LOT more processing power than scanners are able to apply.

So are you saying it's impossible?

No, but with a P25 simulcast cell you have to actually minimize the amount of signal coming in so you're only hearing one of the towers.

In Tiffin, you're just too far out to hear well. It doesn't matter CQPSK or not.

snapperq, I live in Delta and I receive Lucas County garbled most of the time, it depends on who is talking. When I go to Toledo, I receive the same stations almost 100%. Tom has it right, you need to limit your scanner to one tower. That will be very had to do from Tiffin. A directional antenna probably won't help, the beam width of most of them will be wider than the bearing separation between towers. You might be able to use a variable attenuator but I doubt that will work dependably. MARCS might be the only thing you can monitor dependably.
