P25 system “roaming”

We recently switched to our counties p25 system. While testing them before making the switch one of our guys had a portable at his job up by giants stadium and was talking to us. I’m pretty sure the last north tower isn’t reaching that far, my question is can these system roam off each other. Or how does the radio work so far off it’s Home system

Depends on if the County system was linked to any other system at the time or not. Most likely, he was able to reach the tower in Woodbridge atop the Best Rent building by the Community Center/Woodbridge Mall, or off the 400 foot tower at the Fire Academy in Sayreville, as those have a clear signal shot up to that area.

Oh nice, thanks for the reply. The system def has great coverage in our county and out as far as I have been testing, coming from a VHF repeater where our portables could barely talk out of a house 1/4 mile away from the base anything is better. But so far it’s working great. Put it through some good paces last night with a bunch of storm related calls, nice to not be stepped on anymore

Which system are you currently on and which system did you move from?

We are now on Middlesex counties P25 phase 2 Harris system. We were on a VHF repeater with voter system that never worked and had horrible portable coverage.
