Just out of curiosity, I noticed that Motorola is focusing their P25 Astro systems to the N. America and Australia market. But does anyone know if such systems exist in countries in Europe or Asia? Or is it still TETRA market?

Only P25 systems I know of in the UK are at the USAF's bases over here (Lakenheath, Mildenhall) and I think there may be one at Birmingham International Airport.

Morfis? :)

Yeah...TETRA fills the need of P25 over there for the most part.

London Metropolitan Police were (still are?) using an analogue Motorola trunking system. They will be changing over to TETRA (Airwave system) in the near future.

Pretty much all of METPOL are now TETRA AFAIK.

(that's a lot of acronyms, sorry :p)

This is not the case because the Middlesex area still use analogue. In fact they use both. Apparently Staffordshire also (still) use analogue.

We were talking about Metropolitan Police... "Most" of metpol are using airwave now, last time I checked. I don't live down there, and I don't follow what's happening in London re: airwave :)

Staffs aren't on analogue as far as I know, just the fire service still using their Motorola Type II net.

Correct, all County police except for a small area of the MET use Airwave. The remaining Met areas are due to have moved over to Airwave by Q3 this year.

P25 in the middle east.

Hello.

In the Gulf Arab regions the US military will need to switch over to TETRA after installing P25 systems.
In Saudi Arabia the military was told not to use ANY radio system besides the SINCGARS, P25 was never approved by the Saudi government and the Motorola provided radios were put on the input of the radio systems used for the Azan, the call to prayer.
The Gulf Arab nations want a unified TETRA system for all government functions, including the US military.
This is really not that odd a request, as the SINCGARS nets are fully unified.
It did not help that the 200+ Motorola radios were all marked "Made in Isreal".

There is one P25 TRS in Hong Kong, and a few more in the Russia and the Ukraine. In fact, I read someplace that police and security forces in Baghdad, are using a P25 TRS. I wonder how extensive the coverage for that system is in Iraq?

Watch, some time in the future, a newbie will come across this thread on a google search and ask us if there is an online stream set up for Baghdad!
