Do P25 systems audio quality get affected by weather? mine all seem muffled and hard to understand at this time compared to yesterday on my Uniden sds200 but, the conventional frequencies sound fine? I'm having a weather system moving in and I hope, it's all that is affecting my P25 system. Thanks for all input!

You'd be amazed how weather affects P25 signals in the 700/800 region. Heavy rain or snow can reduce coverage and your reception. If you watch over the air digital TV you may experience the same thing if you use an indoor antenna.

aha if weather is causing P25 audio to process differently, it's probably raining alien goo. Coverage maybe, but not audio quality in signal capture. P25 audio is end-to-end digital without decoding, AKA the audio quality is defined by the signal encoding in the transmitting radio/console and the output quality is defined by the signal processing in the receiving radio/console.

Weather will affect microphones though, especially if they hold water better than they repel it.

Weather can't affect audio, digital or analog, or make audio sound "muffled" whatever that means.
Weather can only affect signal levels or in some cases cause multipath issues.
If P25 decoding is bad then the audio would break up or sound like R2D2.

I'm going to have to find out how to post an audio sample. Cause this thing can't compare to my Whistler WS 1065 on any, of the digital audio transmissions and I may have to send it back.

Since the "Attach Files" function here only allows certain file types and sizes, I use Google Drive to share audio links

crippledchicken,
Yes, the weather can affect P25 radio traffic. Muffled or garbled sound would be a likely result. If I was you I'd sit tight and see if the audio clears up as the weather system moves on.

I noticed one of the officers saying maybe their received transmissions between each other that was hit and miss, was weather related so I'll see what happens when the weather clears. Thanks! :)

If you are not getting a good enough signal, or being interfered with from another signal, due to the WX, then your audio decoding will be impacted.

Yes, I agree with several commentators, weather can indeed affect your reception of ALL radio signals, including digital signals. That is, it can cause a reduction in the signal reaching your receiver.( and in the case of groundwave skip, it can sometimes cause an improvement of the signal reaching your receiver.) Furthermore, as the result of my 50 years studying radio propagation, I can tell you that, without a doubt, WIND, common during storms and other weather events, directly affects frequencies above 400 Mhz, causing the signals( particularly distant signals) to literally be "blown around". This can and will cause a reduction in the quality of the 800 Mhz signals reaching your receiver, and, in the case of digital signals, can cause distortion and drop outs of the signal. I do not believe that it is anything inherent with P25 systems, as the wind can affect all digital, as well as analog, signals.
