Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a 900MHz P5300 with R14 firmware that i cannot read. It will not even go to program mode (PTT while turning on) nor bootapp (all three while turning on)

I am using RPM 8, and the ca-023407-003 rev b cable under windows XP

Any ideas?

Is there any indication that the PTT button isn't working? I haven't had the problem with the 5000 series, but when it happens with the 7100s I have to pop the plastic exterior button off and push in on the rubber piece to get it to go into programming mode, and then subsequently replace the button.

Hm, check all the menus? I was working on a 5400 once that had an option within the menus to go into programming mode. That's all I got on the topic. I don't have very many 5000's in the fleet and they rarely have any problems.

Is it booting to ECP or OTP?
Also on the later series you need a real programing cable as rpm automatically puts it into programing mode. If the cable is hooked up you can put the radio into program mode with the ptt and 2 side buttons well turning the radio on like the older p7100s used to. Make sure your in ecp first though.

The cable you are using isn't a programming cable (that is what the 003 means, I think it's a key loader cable). This is probably why it isn't going into program mode when you power on with the PTT pressed and the cable connected.

R14 supports automatic program mode, so if you don't have data selected, just connecting the cable and setting RPM off should switch it into program mode. If that fails, you're going to have to either modify the cable to have a 0ohm sense resistor, or get a real programming cable.
