• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Is it normal operation for 'P7000' series radios with adjustable backlighting settings to jump to full brightness when a talkgroup is active and the setting is below 6?

Is there any known issue with the backlighting function when Enhanced CC scan is set for a system in the radio? I have a P7100 that when it's set to the system programmed for Enhanced CC scan, the backlight will continuously turn on and off without touching any of the radio controls. If I set the radio to any other system programmed into the radio the backlight functions as normal and doesn't come on until you touch one of the radio controls.

I have XGP R2A26 on a P7200,which allows the backlighting to be adjustable and a P7100 which has the latest firmware version for it loaded.

I'm just unsure if the backlighting for the P7200 is supposed to ramp up to full brightness (if you have it set to a lower value) when the backlight is currently on and your receiving traffic on a talkgroup.

Same with the P7100,I'm unsure if the backlight is glitching when the radio is set to a system with Enhanced CC scan. The backlight keeps coming on in 2 second intervals and no radio controls are being touched. When switched to any other system in the radio the backlight works as it should.

Sounds like a glitch to me. You might even want to write up as concise a report as possible on the glitch and the circumstances surrounding it, and send it to Harris. They're very good about stamping out any known glitch as quickly as possible.

Essentially, your display backlight is turning on at undesired times. For an officer in the field, at night, on a "stealthy" operation, that backlight glitch becomes an officer safety issue. Harris will want to know about that glitch and stamp it out quickly.

Does it seem to come on when it finds/loses a control channel signal?

Just a fleeting thought, if it's only in enhanced CC scan that this happens.

Sounds like a corrupted radio personality file due to REPLICANT ERROR.

(IE: Using a recycled personality. Reading out a radio, editing the 'read-out' personalty, and loading it back into a radio.)

SOLUTION: Start over again with a clean master personality from scratch.

It does it even if system scan is set to off and it's locked onto a strong CC.

Do any of the XG series radios ramp up the backlight to full brightness when receiving a call if the backlight setting is set to one of the lower settings?
