Just wondering if anyone knows anything about the state prison system converting over to a digital system? I've noticed a lot of the Eastern prisons aren't being received and when you take out the PL tone, all you hear is digital noise. I was recently in Centre County and Benner can still be heard, but Houtzdale appears to be digital. Can anyone weigh in on this.

one facility is noted to be using trbo so it would not be a stretch to think possible switch to DMR.

The DOC is listed as having talkgroups under PA StarNet. Not sure if this is all inclusive for DOC or if it possibly the digital system they are transitioning to, but all TGs appear to be full-time encrypted.
So, those talk groups at Waymart have been like that for years. This is something that has been taking place in the last 3-5 months. I live outside Harrisburg, and as of mid-August, Camp Hill went silent. I've seen some pages indicate some PA STARNet testing, see Pennsylvania Statewide Radio Network (PA-STARNet) Radio and Unit IDs and Pennsylvania Statewide Radio Network (PA-STARNet) Talkgroup Research, but can't figure out if they are using their existing frequencies as part of the network (which would make sense since they are emitting a digital signal now) or if they are using pre-established PA STARNet frequencies.

Just wanted to follow up on this thread with some updates. At least at the Camp Hill site, they have switched to DMR from NFM. So n3obl, you were tracking right.

The are clear. It seems as if they are taking advantage of the slot option, cause the main Maintenance channel is SL 1, and yesterday they went to "channel 4" and it was on SL 2. I haven't been able to analyze the Ops channel as much.

DOC has been switching "inside" radios over to DMR. "Outside" radios are on STARNET. Outside would be radios used by transports, roving security, work details, etc. Inside is the unit guards, food services, etc within the facility.

Anybody who finds new dmr in use, please submit info to update the database.

I did submit them and they are currently pending. But for information, here they are:

453.325 WQDW272 RM CC 3 TG* SL* SCI Camp Hill SCI Camp Hill - Operations DMR Corrections
453.875 WQDW272 RM CC 5 TG* SL1 SCI Camp Hill SCI Camp Hill - Maintenance CH 3 DMR Corrections
453.875 WQDW272 RM CC 5 TG* SL2 SCI Camp Hill SCI Camp Hill - Maintenance CH 4 DMR Corrections

@HM1529 Does it look accurate? It's what my scanner shows, but I'm not always sure if it's DMR conventional or DMR trunked. Do you know much about DMR? It all new to me.

Honestly, it could go either way. SCI Phoenix is TRBO Capacity Plus system while SCI Chester was reported as conventional DMR.

How can I tell the difference between conventional DMR and TRBO Capacity Plus system? I'm currently working with another member about how they should be posted for local businesses but they are new to both of us.

@HM1529 In follow up and if you can, check out how he listed the business we added for Cumberland County. I think this is more on point on how other listings are similarly listed.

Capacity Plus will emit a data burst every few seconds on the active "rest channel" & the audio emission will sound like this, though the bursts are often spaced further apart. Additionally if you have a Uniden Scanner with the DMR paid upgrade installed you'll see CAP or CAP+ (depending on model) flash up on the screen
