Help me out, I been traveling between the MD state line and Breezewood PA and have not heard much state police traffic. Are they still on VHF or have they moved to a digital system (Open sky)

They are open sky I'd say.
Bedford, Huntington, not sure on McConnelsburg have been for several years.

Many troops are still using the old VHF channels every so often, not a lot, but sometimes, at least over here in Pittsburgh.

i know they have them in washington not at all sure about the others.that being said washington still uses vhf quite alot.

Pittsburgh troopers have had Open Sky radios for about 2 years, but in many areas they do not work too well. That's when they switch over to VHF.
